Meet Leiney
Named after Wisconsin's beloved Leinenkugel's beer, Leiney is a 5-month-old shepherd mix with a coat as unique as her name. When strays come into rescue, their breed history is always a bit of a mystery - but whatever the combination, it produced something spectacular. We see hints of German Shepherd, maybe some Australian Shepherd, possibly even a splash of Belgian, but honestly Leiney is one of a kind. Streaks of black, tan, and cream swirl together like the world's most adorable brew, and those big soulful eyes will have you filling out an application before you even finish reading this.
Leiney came to us as a stray, but you'd never know it. She has settled into foster life like she's always belonged here - and honestly, she kind of acts like she owns the place. In the best way.
Leiney is still growing into her body - we expect she'll mature into a substantial 75+ pound girl. But what she lacks in size right now she more than makes up for in personality, intelligence, and sheer unstoppable energy.
**The real talk:** Leiney is *a lot* - and we mean that as a compliment. She is an extraordinarily active girl who needs a family that is ready to match her pace. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred, and daily vigorous exercise is non-negotiable. She is always on the trail of something, nose to the ground, tracking the universe's great mysteries. The good news? All that energy has an off switch. Come evening, Leiney is happy to settle in and cuddle as the household winds down. She works hard and rests hard.
She is whip-smart and wildly food motivated, which means training is an absolute joy - and also means she will find creative ways to entertain herself if you don't stay one step ahead of her. She loves to chew and should always have appropriate outlets for that busy mouth. She's not destructive, but idle paws are the devil's workshop with this one. Keep her engaged and she will shine.
Leiney is excellent in her crate and well on her way to being fully house trained. She walks reasonably well on leash for a pup her age. She plays enthusiastically with other dogs - though her ideal canine sibling will need both stamina and patience to keep up with a very energetic little sister. She has been respectful of cats, though the cats have reserved judgment. She absolutely adores the teenage boys in her foster home.
**A note for families with young children:** Leiney is all puppy right now, which includes some mouthy nipping as she learns the rules. She has loads of potential, but families with young children should be experienced with dogs and committed to continued training.
Leiney is the kind of dog who will be your shadow, your adventure buddy, your couch companion, and your greatest training success story - all rolled into one beautiful, streaky-coated package. She just needs the right family to help her become everything she's meant to be.
