DESCRIPTION
Meet Ms. Redd, the Chinese Sharpei mix. Ms. Redd came into the Shelter as a stray so we don’t know much about her past. She is a petite, vibrant Sharpei mix who has enjoyed socializing with people since her arrival. She can be nervous in new situations but with time and patience, gets more comfortable. Ms. Redd has met other dogs and has been curious but keeps a respectful distance. Any resident dogs should meet in the Shelter prior to adoption. Due to some prey drive observed, a home free of small animals (cats, rabbits) would be best. Ms. Redd has been showing signs that she may be potty trained but adopters should let her out frequently and reward her for going potty in the right place. Ms. Redd would thrive with an adopter who will bond with her through positive reinforcement based training. Ms. Redd is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED
The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
The Shar Pei is a distinctive breed known for their deep wrinkles and blue black tongue. Originally from China, these medium sized dogs are loyal, independent, and protective of their families. Shar Peis have a unique appearance with a hippopotamus like face and a broad, padded muzzle. Their coat can be either horse coat or brush coat, coming in a variety of colors. While they can be aloof with strangers, Shar Peis are devoted companions with a calm demeanor, making them wonderful family pets.
