Ruby - Shar Pei Dog for Adoption in Manhattan, Kansas

Meet Ruby! Ruby is an approximately 5 year olds female spayed Basset/Sharpei mix - a breed combination also known as a walrus dog!

Ruby is up to date on all vaccines, spayed, she is housebroken, uses a doggy door, knows sit, shake, and is a real sweety with people. She has been around children and does fine but has never been around infants. Unsure of how she is with cats as its been quite awhile since shes been around one.

Unfortunately her current family has small dogs that she doesnt always get along with and its becoming unsafe here and there. She needs to go to a loving home where she can be an only dog. Current issues are food aggression with the other dogs as well as if the dogs yelp or make certain movements or noises occasionally she will go after and attack the little dogs even if they are not bothering her at times. Her family has had her since she was a puppy and they are not sure where this is stemming from and its becoming more dangerous for the environment the longer they have tried dealing with it and trying to correct it.

She would do great as an only dog, with a family or someone that has a yard for her to run and play or that would take her on walks, she wears a harness while on walks. She is not aggressive towards and is not reactive towards other dogs dangerously on walks, this is just an in home behavior towards the dogs she is living with.

They are very picky on whom she goes to and wants to make sure its a good fit with a loving family that understands she needs a little bit of work with the issues mentioned above but is overall a very sweet & loving, trained dog. She is scared of fireworks and smoke alarms and barks at lawn mowers.

The Shar Pei is a distinctive breed known for their deep wrinkles and blue black tongue. Originally from China, these medium sized dogs are loyal, independent, and protective of their families. Shar Peis have a unique appearance with a hippopotamus like face and a broad, padded muzzle. Their coat can be either horse coat or brush coat, coming in a variety of colors. While they can be aloof with strangers, Shar Peis are devoted companions with a calm demeanor, making them wonderful family pets.
