Rox (formerly Bonzai) - Shar Pei Dog for Adoption in Houston, Texas

Rox, formerly known as Bonzai, is a handsome Shar-Pei mix with an incredible story of resilience. After surviving on his own for months, he's now safe in rescue and blossoming into a loving companion.

Like many Shar-Peis, Rox is naturally cautious around new people but warms up quickly. Food and toys are his love language! He gets along well with other dogs and would do well in a home with a friend of a similar size who also loves to play, romp, and throw down WWE-style. Rox shows no interest in cats and is working leash manners. He's excellent on a leash 99% of the time until he sees a familiar person or canine friend, and then he forgets all leash manners and pulls.

Also, like many Shar-Peis, Rox came to us with an ear infection, skin infection, and entropion, a painful condition that caused his eyelashes to roll inward, run against the surface of his eyes, and that is why he is squinty in photos. Rox has been treated for his ear and skin issues, and had the entropion surgically corrected.

The Shar Pei is a distinctive breed known for their deep wrinkles and blue black tongue. Originally from China, these medium sized dogs are loyal, independent, and protective of their families. Shar Peis have a unique appearance with a hippopotamus like face and a broad, padded muzzle. Their coat can be either horse coat or brush coat, coming in a variety of colors. While they can be aloof with strangers, Shar Peis are devoted companions with a calm demeanor, making them wonderful family pets.
