Maika - Samoyed Dog for Adoption in St. Peters, Missouri

Maika is approximately 1.5 years old. Maika is a male Samoyed who came into SLSR from the Iowa Dog Seizure in Spring 2026. Maika has opened up so much in the 4 months he's been in our foster home & he's a really sweet guy. Maika still very shy towards strangers, but Maika has become his foster mom's velcro dog!

Maika is good at:
-Drinking straight from the hose
-Cuddling/sleeping in bed
-Foot warmer (laying on feet!)
-Going on walks, smelling lots and lots of things
-Barking when his brothers are barking
-Facial expressions (he's very easy to read!)
-Cleaning his food bowl
-Using stairs

Things Maika is still working on:
-Coming when called (but he's gotten better!)
-Pooping when asked to poop
-Meeting strangers without the fear of God in his heart
-Staying inside when there is an obvious escape route (he was a door darter for the first couple months, not so much anymore but fosters are extremely cautious with him to prevent an escape)
-Eating treats quickly (because he's shy, training has been a bit tough...its hard to get a dog to sit when they'd rather watch you cautiously than take part in the training. He does love food & treats, but has to trust first to take them without caution)
-Going in his kennel (his mortal enemy)
He has no issues once he's in the crate... he's crate trained aside from his unwillingness to go in to crate on his own accord.
For a dog that was literally tied up outside and severely under socialized and neglected, he's turned out pretty spectacularly. Maika will likely never be as outgoing as other dogs, but he's made so much progress!! Maika makes a little progress every single day!!
