Xena is a sweet, affectionate girl who deserves a comfortable home and a family who will cherish her. She is very friendly with people, loves getting attention, and is always happy to accept a treat! Her favorite pastime is rolling around on her back in the grass, and she enjoys carrying stuffed animals around. She finds happiness in the simplest things, and she has so much love to share.
About four years ago, Xena broke her wrist, but her owners never sought veterinary treatment. The injury healed incorrectly at roughly a 90-degree angle, and she developed a large callus that she became accustomed to walking on. When she was surrendered to us, we knew she deserved help to live more comfortably.
Xena was evaluated by two veterinarians, and several orthopedic specialists were consulted. Amputation and reconstructive surgery were both considered. Because she has arthritis in her other legs, a custom-made prosthetic was determined to be the best option to help her walk more comfortably.
Her adoptive family will need to be patient and understanding as she adjusts to her prosthetic and committed to continuing her veterinary care, monitoring, and any recommended follow-up appointments. A laid-back home without stairs to navigate would be ideal, allowing her to move at her own pace and enjoy a comfortable daily routine.
Xena may enjoy a calm canine companion, with a meet and greet required to ensure a good match. She would also be happy as the only pet, soaking up the attention like the queen she is.
After years of adapting to an untreated injury, Xena deserves a family who will put her comfort first. A soft bed, a favorite stuffed animal, a little patch of grass, and people who love her would mean the world to this deserving girl.
Xena's adoption will be handled through an interest questionnaire. Please submit your response by November 4. We will contact applicants directly to discuss her needs and the next steps. (CAN BE FOUND PINNED ON OUR FACEBOOK)
