Pepper has a sad story that I hope others change how they go about their families pets when one passes away.
Pepper has a sad but common story that we hear very frequently in rescue. Peppers owner passed away and not one family member could take. This is a very common thing that could be a lot easier if there was a plan involved.
When you and your family members are getting older, the first thing people want to do is get them a pet and while I love when animals give people companionship, I’m all about the well being of my animals and their FUTURE. I’m not a fan of animals being passed around from home to home especially when the animal doesn’t know the people. It causes a lot of mentally distress in an animal that can cause some behavioral problems such as separation anxiety.
When we work with our adopters we come up with a plan for the future. We work with the family and/or friends that are involved in their life. We find reference in the family or friend circle who would take in said animal if anything was to happen to the owner. So when an owner passes away, people aren’t frantic, searching for someone to take on the animal. There should be a plan with the animal being already familiar with said person, the transition is easy peasy.
We have hard conversations with people when adopting our animals. We do NOT want our fur babies to be displaced or abandoned in a situation like this.
Please make a plan for your animals in case something was to happen to you or your family members. It’s very important to be proactive when it comes to your beloved pets. Don’t let them be abandoned after loosing the only thing they ever loved 🥺
Pepper is a little rat terrier who loves all people and all other animals. She’s a fun little girl.
