Meet Maple 🍁

At around 2–3 years old and a petite 17 pounds, Maple is a Rat Terrier mix with a gentle soul and a quietly charming personality. After coming from a hoarding situation in East Texas—where she bravely raised a litter of puppies who have all since found their homes—it’s finally Momma Maple’s turn to be the one cared for and cherished.

Maple is what we like to call a “cat-dog.” She enjoys affection and will happily curl up beside you for cuddles, but she also values her independence and will do her own thing when she’s ready. Every now and then, she surprises you with playful bursts of energy—especially when her favorite ball is involved!

Because of her past, the world can still feel a bit overwhelming at times. Maple is learning that new experiences can be safe, and she’s steadily building her confidence. She’ll thrive with a patient adopter who understands that trust takes time and is willing to continue helping her explore—whether that’s through neighborhood walks or quiet park visits.

A few things to know about Maple:

She does well with other animals, especially those who are calm and smaller in size.
She sleeps great in her crate at night (as long as it’s near her people).
She can feel anxious when crated during the day, especially if left alone, and loud noises like the garbage truck can startle her.

Because of this, her ideal home would be one where she doesn’t need to be crated while you’re away—perhaps with someone who works from home, is retired, or can provide a calm, open environment during the day.

Maple will likely need a few meet-and-greets or “day dates” to feel comfortable with her new person—but once she trusts you, you’ll see just how special she is. She’s incredibly sweet, full of personality, and just waiting for a forever home that will give her the love, patience, and understanding she deserves.
