Meet Cindy Lou!

We named her Cindy Lou because, honestly, she looks like she stepped right out of a Dr. Seuss book. She is approximately 2 years old, 15 pounds, part Pug and part...well, we are not entirely sure what. Whatever the other half is, it contributed the long, skinny legs and impressive athletic abilities.

Cindy Lou came to us from a mountain county shelter where we believe she had recently had puppies. Her time was running out when we stepped up to take her, while a rescue partner took her brother.

We quickly discovered that little Cindy Lou is a dynamo of a dog in a very entertaining package.

This girl has energy for days. She is fast, agile, determined, and apparently has never met a gate she could not conquer. She can easily jump a standard gate, so her forever home, if it has a fenced yard, will need a secure fence at least 5 feet high, and taller would probably be even better.

Otherwise, Cindy Lou will need to stay on a secure leash outside, no going outside off leash if no fenced yard. She does stay close to her people.

Cindy Lou does seem to be house trained already.

She has had very little behavioral training, so her current philosophy is basically, If I want to be there, I am going there. But underneath all that determination is a dog who is incredibly focused on her people. She simply wants to be with you and she will go to impressive lengths to accomplish that goal.

Cindy Lou does not take well to being crated away from family and will bark her objections. Her goal in life is to be with her people! So, we are pretty sure she will insist on sleeping in bed with you and no apartment living for this gal.

Cindy Lou seems to do well with other dogs, but they honestly are not all that important to her. She is not looking for a canine best friend. She wants her humans. If you are around, she is happy.

We have not tested her with kids but suspect that she may be fine.
She ran from the cat in her foster home when the cat objected to her energy levels, so may be fine in a home with a dog savvy cat that did not mind an active dog.

Because of her energy levels, Cindy Lou is looking for an active adopter who is willing to put some time into training and give her plenty of physical and mental exercise. She would love someone who enjoys hiking, exploring, or generally getting out and doing lots of sociable things and taking their dog with them. She may even be a great jogging buddy!

In fact, if you are looking for a an obstacle-course dog, Cindy Lou may be your girl. As long as you are the carrot, we are pretty sure she will cross the finish line first.

She is not the dog for someone looking for a low energy couch potato or a dog who already knows all the rules. She is smart, athletic, incredibly entertaining, and still figuring out the whole being a civilized house dog thing.

But if you’re willing to laugh, train, exercise, and keep up with her, Cindy Lou could be an incredibly fun companion.

Cindy Lou at a glance:

Cindy Lou may have arrived looking like a Dr. Seuss character, but she has quickly shown us that she is also part athlete, part escape artist, part Velcro dog, and 100% determined to be wherever her people are.

If that sounds like your kind of fun, Cindy Lou would love to meet you!
