Meet Murfee. Turns Out, He Just Needed a Rule Book.
Murfee arrived in rescue at only SIX MONTHS OLD with quite the résumé. We were told he was dangerous on a leash, had no manners or training, didn't like men, and only ate people food because he would "starve" before eating dog food.

Basically, Murfee arrived sounding like a tiny four-legged felon.

We saw something different: a 6-month-old puppy who simply hadn't been given the foundation he needed.

So Murfee packed his little criminal record and headed straight to Aloha Pet Services for some structure, training and evaluation.

Day 1 report: "He is an annoying student." Every time his trainer approached, Murfee tried to run the opposite direction. He peed when she came near him. He barked nonstop. He didn't know what was expected of him and had absolutely no idea how to settle.

Day 3 report: Better student. Going into his kennel. Eating dog food. Settling. Working successfully with his trainer. Starting to figure things out.

Oh, and he pooped out someone's underwear.

So perhaps we also solved part of the mystery surrounding why Murfee hadn't been eating very well.

That's Murfee.

Not a bad dog. Not a dangerous dog. Not a hopeless dog. He's a puppy who didn't have the right foundation and had absolutely no idea what was expected of him.

And in less than 48 hours, we're already seeing huge strides.

He's learning that he doesn't have to be wild to be seen. He doesn't have to bark nonstop to be heard. He can relax. He can settle. He can eat his food. He can go into his kennel. He can look to a human for direction instead of trying to figure everything out himself.

Sometimes knowing the rules and expectations actually makes life LESS stressful. That calming down feels good. Murfee is starting to figure that out.

At only six months old, this boy has his entire life ahead of him. He's smart, young, impressionable and already showing us how quickly he can turn things around when given consistency, boundaries and clear expectations.

We have absolutely no doubt the Murfee who leaves training will be a completely different dog than the one who walked in. Happier. Calmer. Healthier. More confident. And hopefully with considerably fewer pairs of underwear in his digestive tract.

Murfee is going to make someone one heck of a best friend.

His future family will need to continue the structure and training he's receiving now. He's still a puppy, and puppies require time, patience, exercise, socialization and consistency. Training doesn't end when he goes home, and we want the incredible progress he's already making to continue.

6 months old
42 pounds and growing
Learning crate manners
Learning how to settle
Building confidence
Smart and responsive to structure
Professional underwear disposal services have officially been discontinued

Murfee will be ready for adoption August 21st, but applications can be submitted NOW.

Don't wait until we post his glow-up and suddenly everyone wants him.
