Dina - Poodle Dog for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

Dina is fostered in Scarborough.

Sweet Dina is a 13 year old Poodle X weighing 8.5 kg. The rescue received Dina from a shelter where she had been left after her owner passed away. At her first vet appointment they found that she had suffered some kind of trauma to her spleen and it had to be removed as well as part of her liver when a lesion was discovered during the surgery. We were very concerned about the prognosis but she came though with flying colours bouncing back quickly. She also has a thyroid condition and will be on medication for that and a liver supplement for the rest of her life. When she hears the pill bottles rattling, she comes running in for her medication and takes it easily rolled up in a piece of meat. Being in her golden years, Dina has benign cysts on her body and a fatty lump on her left side but these don't bother her at all. She has also had a dental and is in tip top shape.

Going for a long walk or sitting outside on the deck in the backyard are two of her favourite things to do but her most favourite pass time is sitting with her person on the couch curling up right beside them. Following her person around the house, keeping them in sight is also very important to Dina and she will run behind you with her ears flapping up and down to catch up with you.

Currently, Dina is living with two other pups and gets along well with them. She is very friendly when people come in the house and goes to greet them at the door. Come and stay are the the only cues she has demonstrated so far but she is a quick learner despite her age. In fact, Dina doesn't realize she is as old as she is, running up and down the stairs like a much younger pup. She enjoys rides in the car usually taking a nap for the duration of the journey. If she wants your attention she will bark once especially to go out or snort at you and if she doesn't like something will wrinkle up her nose and look away.

Dina eats kibble and wet food twice a day and loves treats including cucumber, tomatoes and cauliflower. As soon as she smells them she runs to you and barks to remind you she is there to get some.

A home with a backyard and someone home much of the time would be the best placement for Dina. She has so much more love and companionship to give some lucky person or family.
