Our sweet little girl Echo is almost 4 months old, tiny sweetheart and still searching for her furever family. You see, little Echo is deaf, but that doesnt stop her from being the little doll baby that she is. Shes your typical puppy, playful, curious, and needs a little extra supervision due to her deafness. Her new home needs to be her ears to keep her safe. Puppy proofing her home is important, and her new family should be agile and active to keep up with her puppiness.
Requirements for her new home are as follows:
1. She MUST have another similar sized dog in the home to help her navigate and to learn from.
2. If You have a single family home, and have a fenced in yard, you will need to provide photos of your fencing. If you live in a waterfront home, secure complete fencing of your ENTIRE YARD is a MUST. There are no exceptions.
3. If you own a condo, townhome etc. she will need frequent tinkle break walks throughout the day.
4. She will need to have a family that either works from home or is only gone a few hours during the day. If you work full time outside the home, she is not for you, and we have other pups in our care that might be better suited for your lifestyle.
Precious Echo is fully vetted, she is spayed, current on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped and is on heartworm and flea prevention.
If you meet these requirements for Echo, please visit www.viprescue.org to fill out an adoption application. You MUST fill it out completely, ESPECIALLY to provide consistent Veterinary care for the last 3 years. If these requirements are not met, your application will be closed. We will not be emailing back and forth searching for information that you did not provide on your application. Please take a few extra minutes to look over your application to make sure youve answered all questions. Unfortunately we just dont have the time to keep asking for info that shouldve been included on your application. We are all Volunteers with jobs, families and animals of our own. We hope you understand.
Thank you for thinking Rescue!
If you'd like to add this little cutie to your family, please visit www.viprescue.org to fill out an adoption application.
Adoption Requirements: You must be a Florida resident, and be at least 25 years of age to adopt. To qualify for adoption, all of the pets in your home must be spayed or neutered, be current on all vaccines, preventatives, and have received consistent veterinary care. If youve had more than one Vet in the past 3 years, you must provide all the names and numbers for each vet. This breed typically lives 15-18 years, so please keep that lifespan in mind, as your age should be appropriate for the pets estimated lifespan.
All of us at VIP Rescue are Volunteers, with families, jobs and pets of our own, so please be kind and patient. We select the most fitting application for the dog, not necessarily the timeliest adoption application. Please make sure to read the entire bio of the pet youre interested in before applying to adopt to make sure you meet the pets needs. Thank you for thinking rescue.
Having a Deaf dog,
This is one article we googled.
https://www.smalldoorvet.com/learning-center/medical/deaf-dogs
The highlights are:
-Youll have to be your dogs ears. You should never let your deaf dog off-leash in an area thats unsecured. Enclosed dog parks and dog runs are great tools for socializing deaf dogs in a safe space.
-They may not understand certain concepts and dangers that hearing dogs do. For example, your deaf dog cant hear cars or honking, so arent able to use these scary sounds to act accordingly.
-Deaf dogs can get startled easily. Wake them up gently and give warning signs before sneaking up on them. Tap your foot to get their attention and use their other senses to your advantage. There is a myth that deaf dogs may be more aggressive as they can be scared more easily, but this isnt true.
-They do bark! There is a common misconception that deaf dogs dont bark, but they can bark just as much as hearing dogs. They may also bark in various situations where a hearing dog would not bark.
-Each dog is unique, deaf or hearing. Deaf dogs arent more expensive to care for than hearing dogs, and the costs and care will be specific to your own dog.
PLEASE do your research and understand the potential needs of this boy, before you apply.
