Ayla - Pit Bull Terrier Dog for Adoption in Sherwood, Oregon

The MexiMutt Project is an initiative of Born Again Pit Bull Rescue. Millions of dogs live on the streets in Mexico, and our rescue works at the source through spay/neuter programs, rescue, medical care, and adoption into loving homes.
- Since 2019, we have matched over 500 dogs with loving homes & spayed/neutered over 3,500 dogs in Mexico.
- All of our dogs are currently in foster care in Guadalajara, Mexico. They are listed in Oregon for adoption purposes because our rescue is based there.
- Once an adoption is approved, the dog will fly to Portland, Oregon (PDX). Most dogs arrive within 2-4 weeks after approval, depending on flight availability.

- HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived outdoors, they'll need some time to adjust. Most adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.

Ayla was found wandering the streets in heat, a pack of male dogs trailing her through the neighborhood. It was dangerous, and everyone who saw it knew it. She technically had owners - but they let her roam, and no one was really watching out for her. After some conversations, they agreed to let her be spayed. It was supposed to be a turning point.

Instead, it became the hardest fight of her life. After surgery, her wound opened completely. She needed emergency intervention a second time, the prognosis uncertain, the outcome not guaranteed. Ayla had different plans. She pulled through.

During those fragile weeks of recovery, our foster Romy cared for her - gave her warmth, attention, a safe space to heal. "Every time you walked through the door, she just lit up," Romy says. "So grateful. You could feel it."

Then came the part of her story that's hardest to write: foster capacity was completely full and there was no home to place her in. After she recovered, Ayla had to go back to the streets - where she's been ever since.

Two years later, she still lives outside. And yet - every time we go out for our weekly streetwork runs to feed and give meds to the street dogs, Ayla spots us from across the block and comes running. No hesitation. Just joy, and a full-body greeting that makes it feel like the reunion you didn't know you needed. After everything she's been through - the neglect, the medical crisis, the years on her own - she still leads with love. Every single time.

She deserves a real home more than almost any dog we know. A soft place to land, people to greet at the door, a life that finally matches the loyalty she's already been giving for free.

Ready to apply? Here's what to expect:

Because our dogs cannot return to Mexico if there isn't a good fit, we're extra thorough in matching each dog with the right family ensuring lifelong success for both dog and adopter.

3. We arrange the flight to Oregon (included in fee) and send periodic photo/video updates
4. Airport pickup at PDX, pay adoption fee, receive medical records, welcome your new family member home!

Timeline: 2-4 weeks for CDC/USDA paperwork and flight arrangement once approved.


$650 Adoption Fee includes all of the following:
- Flight to Oregon, USDA import permit, Screwworm Health Certificate
- Spay/neuter, core vaccines (DHLPPi, Rabies, Bordetella). Flea/tick/heartworm treatment & deworming.
- Blood work & health tests (CBC, blood parasite tests, parvo/giardia/coronavirus test).
- Grooming. Microchip. Collar, leash & ID tag.

The Meximutt Project is 100% volunteer-run by a small team of dedicated animal lovers. We cannot respond to every application due to high volume, but if we think there's a good match, we'll reach out.
