Meet Penny -- a beautiful reddish-gold pit/hound mix with soulful eyes, adorable little neck tufts that seem to have come from who-knows-where, and a personality that keeps people smiling. One of the first things you'll notice about Penny is her uniquely expressive eyes -- a little buggy-looking in the absolute cutest way possible -- giving her a constant look of curiosity and charm that's impossible not to love.

Penny came to us as a transfer from a local vet office after undergoing heartworm treatment, and now that she's officially completed treatment and feeling great, she's ready to find a home to call her own.

She's an energetic girl who enjoys exploring the world around her, especially if snacks are involved. Penny is very food motivated, which makes her a great candidate for continued training and bonding with her future family. While she can be a little aloof at times and marches to the beat of her own drum, she has a fun, lovable personality that grows on you quickly. She also has one very strong opinion in life: bath time is absolutely unnecessary and should be avoided whenever possible.

Penny has met other dogs here at the shelter and didn't seem bothered by them at all, and she also scored well when introduced to a cat. Based on her easygoing nature, we think she would likely do just fine in a home with kids as well. Another bonus? Penny keeps her kennel impressively clean, so we believe she is likely housebroken too.
