DESCRIPTION
At 9:30pm long after we had closed for the day someone tied a dog to the back gate of our shelter... by our dumpster... and drove away.
Alone. Confused. Scared. In the dark. They just drove away and never looked back.
An hour later, around 10:30 PM, a kind couple happened to drive by and noticed him tied to the fence. They immediately called the police. Thankfully, the amazing officers at the Port Richey Police Department have Dani's number and contacted her right away. She rushed down to the shelter and met Officer Lake and the couple to safely bring this sweet boy inside.
We named him Lake after the officer who responded to help him.
We will never understand how someone could leave a dog tied to a fence in the middle of the night at a CLOSED shelter instead of asking for help. He could have been stolen, attacked by another animal, strangled himself trying to escape, or sat out there terrified until morning in the Florida heat and rain.
But despite what happened to him, Lake is safe now. He's loved. He's gotten a full belly, a soft bed, vaccines, neuter surgery, and lots of reassurance that humans can still be kind.
And the best part? Lake is now available for adoption and ready for a family who will never abandon him again.
