Some dogs come into rescue with a story that breaks your heart... and then they somehow find a way to put it back together again.
Fiona is an approximately 2-year-old Pit Bull weighing 38lbs. who has survived more hardship in her short life than any dog ever should.
Before coming to rescue, Fiona was living on the streets while heavily pregnant, doing everything she could to survive. Just two days after arriving in rescue, she gave birth to ten beautiful puppies. Even though she was exhausted and severely malnourished, she devoted herself completely to her babies. When the puppies were only a week old, tragedy struck. Fiona developed severe mastitis and had to be hospitalized. Because of the extreme malnutrition she suffered during pregnancy, her milk was no longer safe for her puppies. Despite round-the-clock bottle feeding, only two of her ten puppies survived.
As if that wasn't enough, Fiona later developed a serious infection caused by bad sutures after her spay surgery and once again found herself back in the hospital. Through every painful setback... every procedure... every disappointment... Fiona never stopped trusting people. Today, that chapter is finally behind her.
Fiona is healthy, gaining weight, and discovering what it means to simply be a happy dog. She has blossomed into the loving, playful, affectionate girl she was always meant to be.
Her favorite thing in the world is her people. She loves deeply and forms an incredible bond with her person. Whether you're going for a walk, relaxing at home, or simply enjoying a quiet evening together, Fiona is happiest right by your side.
She walks great on a leash, has excellent recall, and enjoys supervised off-leash time on our property, happily coming when called. Fiona would make an incredible companion for someone looking for a loyal best friend. Because she can be protective of the person she loves, we feel she would thrive with a single person or someone looking for a devoted companion.
Fiona does need the right home. Due to an incident involving a smaller dog—which was not entirely Fiona's fault—we feel she would do best in a home without dogs smaller than she is. That said, she has spent time around our own Chihuahuas without any issues. We're happy to discuss the circumstances honestly with potential adopters so you can determine if Fiona is the right fit for your family.
After everything she's endured, Fiona deserves more than just another home. She deserves someone who will never let her wonder if she's safe.
Someone who will cherish her for the incredible dog she is.
Someone who will give her the happy ending she's waited so long to find.
If you have room in your heart for a resilient, housebroken, loving girl who will give you unwavering loyalty in return, Fiona is waiting to meet you.
Fiona is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, on flea and tick prevention and micro-chipped. $50 rescue adoption fee applies.
