Blooper is a silly guy! He can be a little shy in new places, but once he warms up to you, you'll find a playful, happy dog. He is needing a more experienced adopter to help him when he gets in his state of overstimulation. Until he can learn some more self control, he may be a better fit for adults. He has done well in playgroup at the shelter and definitely benefits from not only physical but mental exercise throughout the day.
His foster said " Blooper is smart, curious, playful, and just a sweet kinda dopey guy. This is a good young man who has the potential to be an excellent dog! He is crate trained. He had no accidents. He knows sit, is working on stay, and has good recall. Once we left the shelter, he did really well on walks with hardly any pulling even when passing by dogs in yards and people. He did great in the car. Also, he is just so handsome!
He was good at fetch and is so cute when running back on his big horse legs! He wants to be engaged because he has such a big interest in the world around him. He really enjoys puzzle toys and is food motivated. He will chill and spread out on the couch once he has gotten his energy out. Once the lights were out, he slept through the night in bed with me. He jumped on me a few times at first but stopped once I ignored him a time or two.
He loves to have something to chew on be them bones, toys, or something he has snagged off a low table- if he must. If not supervised he will help himself to anything that looks good to chew on. He would sort of slowly mouth my hand for attention but even gentle, it was a bit much. I think he might be too much for younger kids, unless the owner had experience with big pups. I think he would love to be a teen's best friend.
This is not a couch potato! He needs stimulation! He is Not excessively energetic or spastic, but needs activity.
He doesn't seem to know his size or strength so while he is very enthusiastic to play, and would love a dog sibling, they would need to be very tolerant of rough and tumble play. He is not aggressive! just... overwhelming. He responded well to pretty big corrections from my dog (another male) and did not escalate. He comes with big puppy energy. He got rigid when seeing the stray cats on the porch but did not lunge or growl. He didn't seem to care about birds or squirrels in the yard or on walks.
He is a bit of a scaredy cat. He seems afraid of the dark. He did have some fence reactivity to the very barky neighbor dogs he saw through the chain link. He did not try to jump the fence or escape the yard. His bark is impressive and loud. He did bark out the window occasionally. Once he starts he needs to be redirected or shown that things are ok before he settles back down.
He met a few folks and was cautious but kind. He was very happy to meet me at the shelter and showed no fear. He was more hesitant around the one man he met. I did not see him with kids."
