Contact my foster at: jsworl@gmail.com Meet Jeff, a handsome, chunky, cute, and active low riding hippo whose waddle strut and gallop stuns the room! Off for an adventure? Jeff hops right in the car, quiet, respectful and lays down on the way. Jeff is incredibly snuggly, sweet, and intelligent who enjoys the company of some dogs. At Latta Plantation (pick-up day from foster), Jeff wasn’t reactive to another leashed dog in close proximity nor was he startled by distant thunder, which makes daring play time on a cloudy day outside all the more entertaining! With a medium to high energy, Jeff is the perfect companion for activity and play during the day, and a cozy TV cuddle session at night once he’s tuckered out! When it’s play time, squeaky balls are his top choice, along with treat-dispensing balls. He is happy to play with almost anything! Not in the mood for a fun day out at the park? Jeff’s got that home base covered. An athlete at heart, Jeff trains and knows the following commands: • “Sit” and “wait”. Jeff sits politely at the door like a true gentleman while being leashed! • Potty trained: Jeff will usually let you know when he needs or wants to go outside. Even though Jeff enjoys the company of others, he’s not one to give hugs right away! Like all good things in life, you’ve to get to know him first, aka, buy him dinner! Once that’s settled, he’s quick to warm up to, leans in for kisses, and pets! With treats, he enjoys them on his terms and takes them very gently While he loves hanging out, Jeff can become over excited during play and sometimes struggles with self-regulation, which makes him a strong leash puller. At this time, he has a strong prey drive toward squirrels and chipmunks his fosters are training to alleviate, so he will need a confident handler and continued leash work. He can be selective with dogs, and would thrive in a home with no cats and/or small animals to help him stay calmer and learn to engage appropriately with others. Being a strong and excitable companion, a family interested in Jeff would need dog savvy older kids who understand his boundaries. Additionally, he is still working on his crate-training skills as he dislikes going into the crate, but settles down once he is inside. At the end of the day, Jeff is a phenomenal companion eager to make the right family play all day and snuggle in the evening. While his strength and boisterous energy are areas of opportunities, it goes to show beneath his muscular and clumsy stride is a heart of gold waiting to be treasured.
