Valentino - Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption

Valentino is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Valentino has shown high arousal on leash, including persistent leash biting that can be difficult to redirect and has been not wanting to walk back to the care center after his walks, pancaking and laying on the ground. He often returns to the leash after briefly engaging with treats or toys and overall deteriorating in the care center despite best efforts to keep him comfortable. Outside of these moments, Valentino is loose and social, enjoys playing with toys and the flirt pole, and engages well with handlers. Medically, Valentino is apparently healthy.

Meet Valentino!
Valentino came to ACC when his owner could no longer care for him. This handsome guy is equal parts couch potato and adventure buddy, happily enjoying a cozy nap at home just as much as a car ride or a game of fetch. While he can be a little independent at first, Valentino is very affectionate once he gets to know his people and is looking for a patient adopter who will let him warm up at his own pace.

My Ideal Home
Valentino would thrive with someone who appreciates his independent streak and is committed to continuing his positive reinforcement training. He already knows several cues, and will benefit from continued work on his leash manners and confidence around some of his triggers. A calm, predictable home will help him settle in and succeed.

Good with Other Pets?
Valentino has lived with small dogs before. Slow introductions would be the best fit for him.

Good with Kids?
An adult-only home is recommended for Valentino. He enjoys affection on his own terms and will do best with people who respect his boundaries and allow him to build trust at his own pace.
