Juan Jamon is a 3-year-old medium–large mixed breed, weighing just under 60 lbs, with a gentle heart and a quiet charm that really shines once he feels safe. He can be a bit shy in new situations, but give him a little time and you’ll see a truly lovely dog emerge - affectionate, easygoing, and full of soft, happy moments.
He’s both food-motivated and nap-motivated (a winning combination), and he’s looking for a family who will enjoy helping him build confidence at his own pace. While his early life wasn’t the easiest, Juan Jamon carries himself with a light, relaxed energy especially on familiar walks, where his personality really comes through. He loves going for walks and taking his time to sniff around the block.
Juan does enjoy the company of other dogs and has lived with them before. That said, he’s also had some challenging experiences, so he would benefit from thoughtful, positive introductions playful, friendly dog companions. With the right support, he’s more than capable and he is also pretty happy to have a good time with his human companions (after all, they’re the ones with the treats!).
He also gets excited about play, and it’s lovely to see that side of him come out. Since he didn’t have many opportunities for play earlier in life, he’s still learning the ropes especially when it comes to games like fetch but he’s eager and figuring it out more each day.
Like many dogs who’ve experienced change and time in a shelter, Juan Jamon will need a bit of patience as he settles into a new home. Giving him the chance to get comfortable with his people and surroundings first will go a long way before asking him to handle too many new situations all at once. With that foundation, he’ll continue to grow and take on new things with increasing confidence.
Anyone who spends time with Juan Jamon notices his sweet nature right away. There’s something so special about the way he gently communicates when he’s unsure or pleased about something and even more special is the moment he chooses to trust you and take that small, brave step forward.
Juan Jamon is ready for a home that will meet him where he is and celebrate who he’s becoming.
