About me:
This is the part of rescue that hurts the most.
When Layla first came to her foster home, she wanted nothing to do with people. She couldn’t be touched, constantly had whale eyes, barked at anyone new, and lived in a state of fear. Never aggressive — just terrified.
But day after day, her foster family showed up for her. Her foster, foster dad, foster grandma, foster sister, and even other rescue fosters all spent time helping Layla learn that people can be safe.
We hate putting a dog under a year old on behavioral medication, but with Layla, we knew she needed extra help to finally exhale and feel secure.
Layla came into rescue with her siblings. Some have overcome their fears beautifully, while Layla still needs more time, patience, and guidance. What she needs now is an adoptive family willing to continue the work that has already changed her life.
Layla needs:
• Another confident dog to help show her the world isn’t so scary
• A patient home willing to move slowly
• A quiet, peaceful home with people who are more homebodies than social butterflies
• A lower-traffic home without a lot of visitors coming and going
• People committed to continuing her training and building trust
She LOVES daycare, and once she feels safe, her personality starts to shine through.
And the best part? She won’t be doing this alone. We’re incredibly grateful to Nerdy K9 and trainer Missy John, who will help make sure Layla’s future family has all the tools and support needed to help her succeed.
Dogs like Layla are why rescue matters. The scared ones. The overlooked ones. The ones who need a little extra time. Watching them learn to trust again is heartbreaking, beautiful, and worth every second.
