Meet Vega, a sweet 4-year-old pup looking for a patient and loving home where she can continue to build confidence. Vega spent the last four years with her family and has experience living with cats, small dogs, children, teenagers, and adults. Her previous family described her as a loving companion who can be a little nervous when meeting new people, but warms up with time and patience.
Vega is a gentle, sensitive girl who may need a little extra reassurance when experiencing new situations. In the shelter, she has shown that she enjoys calm, positive interactions and will approach people gently once she feels comfortable. She loves receiving chest and back rubs, offers sweet face and hand kisses, and shows her affectionate side with soft body language and a wagging tail. She is easy to leash, walks nicely on a loose leash, and enjoys spending time outside with her people.
Vega can be a bit unsure in new environments and may need support building confidence. When she feels overwhelmed, she may retreat, but with gentle encouragement she is able to recover and allow handling. She has also had some challenging experiences with other dogs in the past, including being attacked multiple times, so she would do best with slow introductions and a family who understands her need to feel safe. Vega has shown that she can be tolerant and appropriate with other dogs when given time and space to interact at her own pace.
This lovely lady is ready to find a family who will appreciate her gentle personality, give her time to settle in, and help her continue to blossom. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will reward your patience with endless affection, Vega may be the perfect match!
Behavior Notes:
Per staff 7/6/26: Was called to help with Vega who got under the kennels in TTA. After the Volunteer returned from their walk they were unaware that the back door was open. Attempted to lure out with treats, however she was not eating anymore. Went all the way to the end and put her self in the corner. Used the snappy snare to leash up and was able to gently coax her out and removed with hand.
Per staff 7/3/26:
Kennel Presentation: Vega presented in kennel with head low, ears back, arched back, and tail low with distal flutter. Performed gentle circling and pretzeling. Sat on her bed. When staff positioned at her level, she approached readily.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash. Walked on a loose leash outside
Sociability: Once in the outdoor pen and off leash, Vega displayed submissive, affiliative behavior: soft squinty eyes, head low, tail low with distal wagging, and lip licks. Approached staff gently, accepted chest and back rubs, and offered repeated face and hand licks. When staff approached her from a standing position while she was standing, she hunkered down, lowered her head, arched her back, and showed slight whale eye. Note: puncture wounds present around neck. Treats were not offered due to pre-surgical fasting.
Play: Vega was offered a toy and showed no interest.
Dog Interaction: Introduced to a dog named Titan. Initially avoidant - pulled to return inside with slightly tucked tail and ears pasted back. With time, became tolerant of being sniffed, reciprocated sniffing, and offered a small tail wag during a face-to-face greeting before moving away readily.
Return to Kennel: Returned to kennel easily. Leash removal was uneventful.
Color Level: Gold
Per owner 7/1/26: Vega was surrendered by her owner of 4 years. She lived with cats, small dogs, kids, teenagers, and adults. While she can be a bit nervous with new strangers and children, she was overall described as loving them. She can be selective with cats and other dogs. The owner noted that Vega has been attacked by other dogs on 3 separate occasions.
