CANNOLI

Mixed Breed
🇺🇸
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
May 2nd
female, medium, adult

DESCRIPTION

Cannoli ACCT-A-248505 is a 2-year-old female that was picked up by APOs as a stray on 4/23. APOs noted that she is "underweight, wheezing lightly. Wounds on front legs." Cannoli was noted to be quite underweight in shelter, and she was started on a re-feeding plan. She was also noted to have mild ALT elevation and forming decubital ulcerations. In our care, she has been the friendliest pup ever, and adores affection from her handlers, especially head & neck scritches. This slim & sweet girl is looking for a place to bounce back!

MEDICAL:

Per staff on 4/24:
"Dog was noted to have a BCS of 2/9 on intake and was started on medical feedings yesterday.

Objective:

- MM pink, stained dentition w/ mild calculus

- forming decubital ulcerations at ischial tuberosities and on lateral aspects of carpi/tarsi

Very thin, prolonged skin turgor

Great appetite, sweet pup

Assessment:

Very thin body condition

Forming decubital ulcerations (hips, carpi, tarsi)

Mild ALT elevation"

Per staff on 4/24, due to being exposed to a dog that had tested positive for Parvovirus, Cannoli has had a titer run to determine if she is at risk of contracting Parvovirus. Test results indicate that she has antibodies for Parvovirus, which means she has good protection from the virus. This is not a guarantee, but with a good antibody level, Cannoli is at a low risk of becoming infected.

On 4/23, Cannoli was noted on intake exam to have a very poor body condition, and started on a re-feeding plan. Cannoli's current weight is 28.5lbs, and her ideal weight is ~35lbs.

Per staff on 4/23:

"-waxy ears

- clear red nose on top

- flakey coat/skin

- tartar on teeth

-pink dry gums

-bar (bright, alert, responsive)"

ABOUT: MIXED BREED DOG BREED

The mixed breed dogs, often referred to as mutts, are a diverse and unique group with a blend of different characteristics from various purebred dog breeds. These dogs come from a mixture of lineages, resulting in a wide range of sizes, coat types, and temperaments. While each mixed breed dog is distinct in its own right, they are known for their resilience, adaptability, and often have fewer health issues compared to purebred dogs due to their genetic diversity. Mixed breed dogs make wonderful companions for families looking for a loyal and one-of-a-kind pet.
