My name is Merida and, unlike my namesake, I don't know much about archery or Scotland. I'm a Jefferson County dog with very little combat education. But one thing I can say is that I'm Brave, through and through.
Brave doesn't mean not being scared, of course. Quite the opposite! How are you supposed to face your fears if you haven't got any? And I do have my fair share of experience being scared.
My friend and I came to the shelter after being found roaming together in a subdivision. She was emaciated- nothing but skin and bone. I was a normal weight (43 lb), but terrified of the people trying to wrangle us so that we could get the care we needed. How did we get into that situation? Why was she so underweight (despite being otherwise healthy) and I wasn't? I don't think we'll ever know.
I'm not terrified anymore. It takes me a little time to want to approach new people, but once I trust you, I'm an aspiring lap dog and I love to snuggle. I'm gentle, even when I'm scared. I love cookies and, once I start to feel comfortable in a new place, I love to play!
I've had dog friends before, so if you have another dog, I'd love to meet them and see if we're a good match. I haven't met cats and don't know what I would think of them.
I expect that, in my new home, I might need some time to adjust to being part of a family and being loved, but I know I have it in me. I just need a chance!
