Meet Gertie

Gertie is a one-of-a-kind little dog with a big personality packed into a tiny 14-pound body. With her adorable long shape, sweet face, and goofy charm, it's no surprise that her DNA results came back as a hilarious mix of mostly Dachshund, plus Siberian Husky, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, and Bichon Frise. Honestly? Once you meet her, it all makes perfect sense.

This unique little girl is incredibly affectionate and happiest when she's close to her people, whether that means curled up in a lap, snuggled into a blanket, or trotting around the house keeping you company. Gertie is playful, social, and full of love to give.

One thing that has become especially clear in foster care? Gertie absolutely adores children. She recently spent time in a home with young kids and didn't just tolerate them - she actively sought them out to play, cuddle, and be part of the fun. She was gentle, affectionate, and completely comfortable around them, making her an amazing candidate for a family home.

Gertie also gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has adapted easily to new environments. She is kennel trained and doing very well with potty routines when taken outside consistently. Like many dogs adjusting to new surroundings, she may still have an occasional accident while settling in, but she's making great progress and thrives with structure and routine.

Her Dachshund side definitely shows when it comes to chasing outdoor cats, so Gertie will need a cat-free home where she can safely relax and focus on being the happy little companion she was meant to be.
