Meet Brownie!
Brownie may experience the world a little differently, but he certainly doesn’t let that stop him!
This incredibly sweet pup is vision impaired, but we now know that he can see shapes, shadows, and light. He’s been growing up in a foster home, where he’s learning how to navigate his surroundings, build confidence, and become the independent boy he clearly wants to be.
Brownie has a wonderfully sweet side, but don’t let that fool you — he definitely has a little crazy puppy side too! He loves belly rubs and chin scratches, gets adorably bouncy when he’s excited, and enjoys running around and playing with the bigger dogs in his foster home. He currently lives with two large dogs and two cats, so he’s already getting plenty of experience sharing a home with other animals.
Being picked up isn’t really Brownie’s thing. He seems determined to prove that he’s a big boy and doesn’t want to be babied just because his vision is different. His future family will need to help guide him and keep him safe while still giving him opportunities to explore, problem-solve, and build confidence on his own.
Brownie would likely love having a confident doggy brother or sister who can help show him the ropes of his new home, but he certainly doesn’t require one. He’d be just as happy soaking up all the attention as the center of someone’s world.
Like any puppy, Brownie is still growing and learning, which means his future family should be ready for plenty of energy, curiosity, training, mischief, and fun. Some things may need to be taught a little differently because of his vision, but with patience, consistency, and encouragement, there’s no reason he can’t learn many of the same skills as any other dog.
Brownie is also currently eating a prescription diet, as the other puppy foods we tried seemed to upset his stomach. His adopter should plan to establish him with their veterinarian shortly after adoption so they can continue his current diet and, when appropriate, work with their vet to carefully trial other foods that may agree with him.
We aren’t sure what breeds make up Brownie, but he has grown quite a bit during his time in foster, so we suspect he may grow into a medium-to-large-sized dog.
Brownie is looking for a family who will give him the guidance he needs without holding him back from becoming the confident, independent dog he’s already working so hard to be. In return, they’ll get one incredibly sweet, goofy little puppy — with plenty of belly-rub requests and a little bit of chaos mixed in.
