Some dogs walk into your life ready to show you exactly who they are. Others need a little time to feel safe enough to let their personality shine. Charlie is one of those special boys and we promise, he is worth the wait. Charlie is a 2-year-old, 50-pound Black Lab mix. He is incredibly smart, sweet, playful, and loving.
Right now, Charlie is still learning that the world can be a safe place. He is frightened by sudden movements, loud noises, and people approaching him. He has never shown aggression, but he will need a patient family who understands that trust takes time.

A little about Charlie:

Loves affection once he feels safe
Loves walks and running around the backyard
Curious and enjoys exploring once comfortable
Loves toys (especially squeaky and durable chew toys), bones and sticks to chew
Loves to help you garden and dig.
Is friendly with other dogs and actually gains a lot of confidence from having a canine friend around.
Working on not pulling on leash, although he walks alongside other dogs well and does not react negatively when dogs pass by.
Sudden/loud noises and movements can scare him.
He is crate trained and does very well in his crate.
He currently does not enjoy long car rides and may occasionally get car sick.
Has not been ca tested

Charlies ideal home:

A calm and patient household
A home with people who enjoy being active and going for walks
A home with another friendly dog, preferably similar in size or larger
An environment where he can decompress and build confidence at his own pace
A home with people who understand that his progress may come in small steps
Charlie has not been around children, but he is currently frightened of unfamiliar people, so a quieter household may be the best fit for him.

Charlie is still working through some fears, so his family will need to be patient with him. Charlie may not be the dog who immediately runs up to a stranger with his tail wagging, but give him time and patience and slowly you will start to see the real Charlie shine through - A goofy, playful, affectionate boy who just wants to be loved.
