Meet Sarge!
He is a playful and spunky guy gives the best hugs. He came in as an owner surrender. Before arriving, he had lived his entire life in a backyard behind a four-foot fence.
He has spent the last six months in foster receiving treatment for heart worm, and has finally been cleared!
Here's what his foster family had to say:
This energetic and brilliant dog is looking for an experienced home.
Sarge's favorite games are tug-of-war and fetch. He also loves his Kong teddy bears, but they usually end up destuffed and headless. He excels at running. He could also do well with dog sports such as disc or nose work.
Sarge is a working dog and will need a job. He's extremely intelligent and great at problem solving. If left with excess energy at the end of the day, that energy will become destructive. He will not do well in a home where he will be alone for long stretches of time.
He's sensitive to the energy of people around him, so he'll need a calm and confident family to lead him and his considerable presence. He is extremely fearful of loud noises including fireworks, thunder, loud cars, etc. He can get overly playful and mouthy when he gets worked up. Sarge is learning to build social relationships and is just learning to trust belly rubs, hugs, and affection.
Sarge is crate-trained, knows the commands: "sit", "wait", "halt", "let’s go", "no", "paw", "outside" "potty", and "hush". However, he's still working on potty training. He has accidents when he can’t make it outside immediately.
He has been learning to live with other dogs. He is not aggressive unless another dog is aggressive with him. He is happy to greet, sniff, and ignore if everyone is calm.
He has interacted with children as young as 3 and as old as 15, however, we think he would do best in home with older kids.
He has a strong prey drive, so would do best in a home without small mammals such as cats.
