Ellie is six years old, 35 pounds, and approximately 62% ears.
She first came to Animal Aid Society as a stray four years ago and was adopted into a home. Unfortunately, after a kerfuffle with the family's small dog - "kerfuffle" being the polite term for "everyone had a very bad day" - Ellie found herself back with us.
To give her the best chance of success, Ellie is looking for a home where she can be the only pet. She promises to handle the position of Chief Household Animal with profound gratitude, excellent manners, and occasional bouts of zooming.
Ellie is affectionate, playful, smart, and eager to please. But when you first meet her, she may seem alert and a little standoffish.
She isn't standoffish.
She is watching you carefully, trying to answer a question that no dog should ever have to ask: "Are you safe?"
Sit quietly and give her a minute...
She'll come closer, then closer still. She'll lean against you, curl into your side, roll over for belly rubs - and, when you stop petting her for some completely unreasonable reason, gently nudge your hand to remind you that her belly still needs rubbing.
Ellie wants so desperately to belong. She wants a person or family who'll be patient enough to earn her trust - and kind enough to protect it once they do.
Despite whatever has made her afraid, Ellie keeps taking that leap. She keeps trying. Please share this post and help her find something to justify her faith. Because once Ellie decides you're safe, she doesn't just give you her paw. She gives you her whole heart.Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA.
