Mama Bear - Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Mama Bear's story starts in a bush, where she was hiding with eight newborn puppies when she was found.She was scared, underfed, and brand new to motherhood, and she gave those eight everything she had. It worked: every one of her puppies is thriving.

Mama Bear kept her distance at first, but she never once stopped us from caring for her puppies. Even while frightened, she let us in for their sake, and that tells us who she is: a gentle soul.

First came treats from our hands, then care without hiding, then a leash and her first walks. Now she accepts pets from the people she knows, and she is just discovering what affection feels like.

She still has a ways to go, and she is already so much braver than the dog who first backed away from us. Mama Bear will be ready to go home around October 15th, and she is looking for a family who will meet her where she is and celebrate each new first alongside her.
