Meet Shadow

Shadow is an 8 year old Poodle/Bichon mix weighing about 18 pounds, and whoever named her did a pretty good job. Once she decides you’re her person, having a Shadow is exactly what you should expect.

She can be a little cautious when meeting someone new and likes to take a bit of time to get acquainted. Once you’re in, though, Shadow is sweet, affectionate and very happy to keep you company. She’s perfectly capable of spending a lazy afternoon lounging around the house, preferably somewhere that allows her to keep tabs on what you’re doing.

Then someone touches the leash.

Shadow loves her walks and gets very excited when she sees the leash come out. She’s also a big fan of car rides and visiting people, and she has become remarkably good at recognizing the signs that someone might be leaving the house. Keys? Shoes? Leash? Shadow is suddenly standing on her back legs with her front paws up, making sure her availability for the outing has been properly noted.

She has lived with other foster dogs and gets along well with them, but she doesn’t need another dog in her new home. Shadow would be perfectly happy having her people to herself. Cats are unknown.

She has done well with the older teenagers in her foster home. Younger children are more interesting from a distance, and she will back away if they try to pet her, so adults, seniors or a family with older children would be the best fit.

Shadow is house trained and pee pad trained. She isn’t crate trained and hasn’t needed one in her foster home. She can be left for a few hours, although if you ask Shadow, there is a very obvious alternative: take her with you.

A fenced yard isn’t required, but she does enjoy having some outdoor space and loves running around in the yard. A quiet, laid back home with regular walks, plenty of time with her people and an available passenger seat would suit her nicely.

Basically, Shadow is looking for a fairly simple arrangement: give her a little time to get to know you, and then accept that you may never leave the house unnoticed again.
