Arnold's story could be incredibly sad. But Arnold has chosen to be the happiest, most loving boy we have ever met. And now we want to find the most amazing family for this amazing boy, because he deserves it.
Arnold was surrendered to Cameron Animal Rescue because his former owner "didn't have time for him". Arnold was emaciated, severely matted from head to toe, and covered in urine scald. When we asked what Arnold liked to eat, we were informed that he ate "whatever was left". When asked if Arnold had any behavioral or training issues, we were told "he only bites if you hit him". Shortly after his surrender, Arnold was found to have a hair-tie tied so tightly on his leg that it was hidden under his fur and had become embedded into his leg. He had to have surgery to remove it and repair the tissue. Arnold had been bred to sell, and when he couldn't be sold, he was neglected and abandoned.
Despite this start, Arnold still loves people. Although he was scared of loud noises, fast movements, and raised hands when he first arrived, he still wanted attention and cuddles. He has had to learn how to be a dog, and learn appropriate behaviors. But has worked hard to learn, and is always eager to please, and he has made incredible progress. Arnold is also the happiest boy we have ever met, and his enthusiasm for life is contagious- you can’t help but smile when you are with Arnold!
Arnold is a happy, bouncy boy. He loves attention and spending time with people, loves other dogs, and loves to play. He is not fully house-trained, but has made significant progress. He has overcome many of his initial behavioral challenges, but still needs a family who will help him feel safe, and help him continue to learn. His new family must understand Arnold's history and that it's important to progress slowly with him. Arnold is an active boy who loves to run and play, and would benefit from an active family. He would love to go to a home with another dog who can be a playmate and role-model for him. Arnold does still have separation anxiety, and does bark, and therefore would not be a good fit for an apartment.
Arnold is approximately 1 year old. He has come a long way, and is now fully healthy. He has gained weight and is now a normal healthy weight. And his leg has fully healed. He is neutered, and has received his full series of 3 distemper vaccines, his rabies and bordetella vaccines. His adoption also includes a microchip, 1 month of heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and 30 days of free pet insurance.
