We are hoping there is someone who would take a chance with Chance.
Seriously, he came with the name and we didn't change it.
Chance was an owner surrender to a shelter in Michigan. No one could get near him. He owned his small crate and decided no one would come near him. He is an older dog, about 7 years old and it would appear that he was quite close to his owner and a bit spoiled. We are pretty sure he was fed food from the table and slept with the owner. Chance was not in a good way at the shelter.
While we were looking at the dogs the shelter hoped we would consider pulling into our program, they asked about Chance.
Chance was not interested in myself or another volunteer, both women, so I asked my husband to come see if Chance would come around for him. Den sat in front of the crate, within 10 minutes staff had opened the crate and Chance went up and, after a very careful sniff over, crawled into Den's lap. The dog seemed relieved.
The first few weeks here at the house were iffy but Chance has come around pretty nicely. We are pretty sure he was greiving the lost of his owner. It was sad to watch. However, he still did not, does not, get fed from the table and we do not allow him in our bed. He can curl up in the comfy chairs in the family room.
This is a dog that can't be bullied or pushed, but needs patience and time.
So, we are looking for someone who would love a loyal companion. Someone willing to give this little guy a chance.
Chance is not crate trained, he has free run of the house, minus our bedroom. He is good with the other dogs, finds the pups annoying (don't we all) and ignores the birds. He is smart and quick to learn but sometimes it's on his terms.
Chance loves to cuddle -- with Den.
It's been almost two months since bringing him into our home and he finally seems happy.
Also, he has been great with our dog sitters when we have been out of town. He actually loves them!
We know there is someone out there for Chance.
