Miniature Pinscher and Chihuahua Dogs Available for Adoption

Calista is a story of survival.
She was found locked in an apartment for two weeks with no food, alongside a couple of other dogs who were all just struggling to stay alive. When the city shelter took her in, she was a walking skeleton-her intake photo says everything. Her skin was in terrible condition, and she was a scared, shut-down little girl who had every reason not to trust people.

But Calista didn't give up.

Once she entered her foster home, she blossomed into an incredible dog with a personality that can barely be contained. She is still a little shy with new people at first-and who could blame her after what she went through?-but give her a few treats and a day or two, and she becomes the most loyal, loving companion.

Calista's hobbies include:
Bouncing. Lots and lots of bouncing.
Cuddling her human every chance she gets.
Inhaling food like she may never get another meal. The way to this girl's heart is absolutely through her stomach.

Calista will need slow introductions to other dogs. She does wonderfully in the crate and on the leash. She is a chill girl who needs some time to open up to new people, and then her personality can shine!

Calista is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 6/6/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since they haven't arrived yet, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start's Foster to Adopt (FTA) Program. Visit our Foster to Adopt Program page to learn more. Once they get to Minnesota, they might require further veterinary care. Ruff Start's veterinary suite is located in Princeton, MN, and, as the foster, you will be required to transport your dog to and from these vetting appointments.

The Chihuahua is a small breed famous for its confidence, loyalty, and big personality, despite its tiny size. Originating from Mexico, these dogs are known for their large, expressive eyes and alert, curious nature. Chihuahuas make excellent companions, forming strong bonds with their owners and displaying a protective nature. The Miniature Pinscher, often referred to as the "King of Toys," is a small but sturdy breed known for its energetic and playful nature. Originating from Germany, these dogs are characterized by their distinctive high stepping gait and sleek, shiny coat. Miniature Pinschers are spirited, alert, and fearless, making them excellent watchdogs despite their small size. With their confident personalities and loyalty to their owners, Miniature Pinschers make charming and lively companions for those who appreciate their big dog demeanor in a compact package.
