Meet Bonnie- "a Golden hearted" Lab girl with a brave spirit and so much love to give!!!
Bonnie arrived at the Glynn County, Georgia Shelter in terrible pain, unable to put weight on her badly injured right hind leg. She had already been there for two weeks when the shelter Veterinarian determined that she needed immediate medial care. With no chance of adoption in her condition, the shelter personnel, who loving called her "Poptart", knew she needed immediate medical attention and contacted GREAT Rescue to help. Bonnie faced the heartbreaking possibility of euthanasia there so the shelter reached out to GREAT as her last hope. One look at this sweet, gentle face was all it took---we knew Bonnie deserved a Second GREAT Chance.
Our amazing Georgia Volunteers gave Bonner her Freedom Ride to our veterinary hospital, where an orthopedic surgeon determined that amputation was her only hope. Bonnie also had an old, poorly healed ACL injury in her other leg., likely from being hit by a car in years past. Even after all she had endured, her gentle, "sunny" personality continued to shine.
Thankfully a very special foster opened their hearts and home to Bonnie without hesitation. On July 29, Bonnie had her surgery and the very next day she began her new life as a tripod. The removed leg did contain cancer, but thankfully a second biopsy showed it to be a less aggressive form. She will be checked again in January (funded by GREAT) and are hopeful for a bright, healthy future for this precious girl.
Today, six year old Bonnie is thriving. Her foster dad says. "Bonnie is as sweet as they come and makes friends with all she meets. She still has the heart of a four-legged girl but has adjusted well to her new life "minus one'!"
Bonnie has not let her past or having three legs slow her down She is a loving, brave, resilient and beautiful girl who is ready to fill a lucky family's home with love and happiness. Bonnie is heartworm negative, current on all vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. Her new family should have a fenced yard, be able to take her on shorter walks daily, a quiet friendly doggie companion would be nice but not necessary and a family member who is home much of the day because Bonnie is a cuddler and would love to sit by the feet (or on the sofa) while her new family members work or watch TV. No children under 8 please. Bonnie must remain in NE Florida/SE Georgia until her final CT Scan is completed in early 2027.
