Hi… I’m Bert.

I’m a handsome and gentle boy… about 2 years old a Labradoodle mix and weighing 45 pounds.

I’m already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and house-trained.
I will make a long journey to traavel from Southern California to my foster home in Ridgefield, WA… by mid May hoping that my real family is out there. I can travel to Vancouver, BC if there is a potential adopter for me.

Here is my story:
I used to have a home.

I remember it in little pieces…
the sound of footsteps,
a familiar voice,
a place where I thought I belonged.

And then one day…

they were gone.

I waited.

I sat where I thought they would come back.
I listened for footsteps that never came.

I didn’t understand.

Did I do something wrong?
Was I not good enough?

So I waited a little longer…

because that’s what loyal dogs do.

Eventually, someone found me.

They said I was “abandoned.”

I don’t really know what that word means…
but I know how it feels.

It feels like being left behind with questions that never get answered.

When I met new people after that,
I wasn’t sure what to do.

I felt shy…
careful…

like my heart needed to protect itself this time.

But here’s the thing about me…

I still believe in love.

If you give me a little time,
I’ll come closer.

I’ll look up at you with soft eyes,
trying to understand if you’re safe…
if you might stay.

And once I feel that…

I open up.

Gently.

I start to enjoy your touch…
to stay close…
to feel comfort again.

I like other dogs too.
They help me feel less alone.

They remind me that life can still be good.

I’m not a loud or demanding boy.

I don’t need much.

Just a calm place…
a kind heart…
someone who won’t leave.

I dream about a home where I don’t have to wonder anymore.

Where I can finally relax…
lay down…
and know that this time, it’s forever.

Where I can follow you from room to room…
not because I’m afraid…

but because I love you.

I may have been left once…
