Meet Arin!

Arin is a sweet, bright, and affectionate young girl who loves people and is always happy to be around them. She is a small mixed-breed dog, weighing about 4 kg (9 lbs), and will turn one year old in December. She is spayed and ready to find her forever family!

Arin has a wonderfully cheerful personality. She loves people and quickly warms up to those around her. Although she has had very little experience living with other dogs, she has never shown fear or excessive defensiveness. She has adjusted well to her surroundings and is learning how to live comfortably with other dogs.

Arin’s Story

Arin's story began in a difficult place.

Her mother, Harin, was about 10 years old when she was abandoned after the small shop where she had been living around an industrial area closed down. Harin had been surviving by receiving food behind a nearby restaurant.

On Christmas Day, Harin gave birth to two puppies in the freezing winter weather. Sadly, one puppy did not survive. Arin was the only puppy who survived.

When a rescue request came in, both Harin and Arin were rescued and brought to safety. Arin went directly into a foster home, while Harin has remained at a shelter in Gunsan.

Arin spent most of her life in foster care, where she was able to experience the comfort of a home environment. Recently, however, due to her foster family's personal circumstances, Arin had to return to the shelter.

Arin is still a young dog with so much life ahead of her. She deserves a family who will give her the stability, love, and patience she has been missing.

After everything she and her mother have been through, we hope Arin's next move will be the last move she ever has to make.

*Arin is currently living in a foster home in Korea. Once she is adopted, she will be transported to the U.S. Because of this, we are unable to arrange in-person meet-and-greets. We are happy to provide detailed information, photos, and videos to help you get to know her.
* We do not recommend leaving dogs alone for more than 4 hours. If you expect to be away longer, we strongly encourage doggy daycare or another appropriate care option.
* We typically do not adopt to homes with children under 8 years old.
* Applicants must be at least 25 years old and live within a 45-minute driving distance of Springfield, Virginia (Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC suburbs only).
* A home check is required before adoption.
* Applicants must have a social media account so we can receive post-adoption updates. We monitor all adopted pets to ensure they continue to thrive.
* Once your application is approved, we will request a copy of your identification through a secure app and/or complete a background screening.

An HDP volunteer will contact you after carefully reviewing your application. Please allow a few days for the review process.

Many of our rescue dogs had very little socialization before entering our program. As a result, skills such as house training, leash walking, and adjusting to family life may take a little extra time. Patience, understanding, and gentle guidance are essential. The good news is that most of our dogs adapt remarkably well, and helping them blossom into confident family companions is an incredibly rewarding experience.

The Akita is a powerful and dignified dog breed originating from Japan, known for its loyalty, intelligence, and independent nature. They have a distinctive curled tail, erect ears, and a dense double coat that comes in various colors. Akitas are renowned for their strong protective instincts, making them excellent guard dogs. However, they require firm training and socialization to manage their dominant tendencies. With the right guidance and care, Akitas can be loving, devoted companions for experienced dog owners.

The Jindo, a Korean native breed renowned for its loyalty, courage, and intelligence, is highly prized for its unwavering loyalty to its family. This medium sized, spitz type dog has a distinctive double coat that sheds seasonally. Known for their independent nature, Jindos require early socialization and firm, consistent training. With a strong prey drive and territorial instincts, they excel as hunters and watchdogs. Their deep bonds with their owners make them loving companions, albeit not suitable for inexperienced owners.
