Ohana is a gentle, slow-to-warm dog looking for a calm, patient family. She is currently in foster care in South Korea and may be able to arrive in New England as early as August 18.

PLEASE READ FIRST

Ohana will not greet you with a wagging tail on day one. She usually needs one to two weeks of calm, low-pressure space before she begins opening up.

Once she trusts someone, she becomes affectionate, seeks out attention, pushes her head into their hand for more pets, and remembers bonded people even after long periods apart.

She would do best in a quiet home and neighborhood with a socially confident resident dog. Busy city living, frequent visitors, and noisy households are not a good fit.

Ohana was rescued from an overcrowded municipal shelter in Cheonan, South Korea. She now lives peacefully with one adult woman and three Jindo mixes weighing approximately 22, 44, and 66 lbs.

PEOPLE

Ohana is cautious with unfamiliar people of any age or gender. She does not bark or show aggression; she withdraws instead.

When visitors enter the home, she may retreat to a corner and refuse food until they leave. Outdoors, she moves away from strangers who pass too closely. Regular walks on busier streets have gradually reduced her wariness.

The best approach is to avoid reaching over her or approaching directly. Give her space and let her come to you.

OTHER DOGS

Ohana is excellent with other dogs and genuinely enjoys their company. Size, sex, and age do not appear to matter to her.

In familiar places with someone she trusts nearby, she plays happily. In unfamiliar environments, she may not initiate play, but she coexists calmly.

CATS & CHILDREN

Cats: Ohana has never lived with a cat. She shows no reaction to free-roaming cats during walks, but any introduction to an indoor cat would need to be slow and carefully managed.

Children: Ohana is not recommended for homes with toddlers or young, noisy children. Calm, older children who understand how to give a shy dog space may be a good fit.

HOME LIFE

Alone Time: Does well at home with the other dogs while her foster is at work.
Sleeping & Resting: Rests on the bed while her foster is away and follows her around the home when she returns.

Car Rides: Loads on cue, waits to be released, settles quietly, and does not get carsick.

Eating: May refuse a new food the first time it is offered but usually accepts it after two or three tries.

EXERCISE & WALKS

Ohana currently receives about two hours of walking each day: one hour in the morning and one hour in the evening. Weekends often include a park or dog-run visit.

She walks easily in familiar areas. In crowded places, she may initially become tense, pull, or graze on grass, but she settles after acclimating. This appears to be a stress response and has improved with repetition.

During her adjustment period, she must use double leashes, a properly fitted martingale collar, a secure harness, and a GPS tracker.

Ohanas best match is a calm, patient household in a quieter neighborhood, preferably with a socially confident resident dog. Her adopters should be willing to give her at least one to two weeks to settle and let her approach at her own pace.

She is not a good fit for homes with toddlers, frequent visitors, constant noise, or dense city activity.

All approved adopters begin with a two-week trial and monitoring period. Daily photo and video updates are required so our team can support Ohanas transition and confirm that the placement is working well.
