Jersey Girl - Jack Russell Terrier and Mixed Breed Dog for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

From the sunny beaches of Barbados please welcome Jersey. She is a four year old spayed mixed terrier weighing in around 25 pounds. Jersey was living a sad life on the beach, scavenging for food and surviving the best she could. She was taken in by Ocean Acres Animal Sanctuary and ended up on a flight to Canada for a better life.

Unfortunately, she arrived just before winter but adjusted quickly to the snow and windy conditions. Since being in foster for the last eight months she has never once had an accident at home. She walks beautifully on leash without pulling whatsoever. She's a low energy and quiet dog...has only barked once. She would only require one or two walks a day. She walks at a good pace but if she gets tired, then she will slow down, which is good. She enjoys being outside and loves when the grass gets cut so she can roll in it.

Jersey is very cautious of new people to the point that she will shake or hide behind you. Its obvious that she has experienced some not so nice people. With time and encouragement hopefully she will get better. If not, then thats okay. As long as she knows who her people are, that's all that matters.

She did spend time away from the home being babysat along with other dogs in the home and by the second day she was more at ease. So for this reason another dog with the same energy as her would benefit her tremendously.

She would do best in a suburban setting. Urban downtown living would stress her out for sure. A single detached home with a fully enclosed backyard is a must so no townhouses or apartment dwellings. Since she is timid a home with children would be too stressful so a retired couple or even single person that can spend the time with her would be ideal setting.
