Lets talk about Dwight!
This socially awkward guy is one of the last of the dogs from the recent Sussex County hoarding/dumping case still looking for a home. He was a bit slower to come around than his brother-cousins Champ and Kurt but is starting to come into his own and show more of his playful fun puppy nature beneath the fear.
Dwight is only about a year old we think and about 10lbs full grown, with long clumsy legs like an Italian greyhound, and probably some chi, min pin, and Jack Russell mixed in there. Unlike his relatives he is NOT a crazy gate-climbing monkey and much easier to contain. Probably due to his wobbly knees with luxating patellas but in his case it makes him much easier to live with- no worries about walking in and finding him on top of the kitchen counter or perched on top of the TV. Hes still getting comfortable with being touched and held and hasnt decided if he enjoys cuddles yet. But he does LOVE squeaky toys, and will do anything for a can of squeeze cheese. He takes comfort in his dog friends and needs a home with another dog in the household definitely to help him adjust. Like all of his crew is a major flight risk if he ever does get loose so extra care will need to always be taken that he doesnt dart out a door or squeeze through or under a fence. Learn your rules before entering and exiting the house to make sure hes safely away and not waiting to scoot out between your legs. Hes working on housebreaking, learning from following the other dogs and is crate-trained and retreats to his safe crate space when nervous. Dwight would probably prefer to live on a 60 acre beet farm but will settle for a nice quiet adult home with another doggie friend and a secure fence, and patient people that understand it wont be a love at first sight situation, at least not on his part.

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.
