Meet Brave!
I'm a 9-12-month-old Husky, and before you start picturing a dramatic, screaming, escape-artist snow wolf who needs to run a marathon before breakfast... hear me out!
Yes, I'm a Husky, but I might just be the perfect introduction to the breed for someone who has always wanted one but worried they might be too much dog. We aren't entirely sure I know I'm a Husky! I have my moments, of course. If I get bored in my crate, I might practice a few Husky cries, but I haven't exactly auditioned for an opera. And when I get excited, I bounce around like a gazelle, getting all four feet off the ground and twisting midair. It is genuinely hilarious to watch!
My name is Brave because I haven't always been the bravest guy, and the hope was that the name would help me grow into it. But I think I've already shown plenty of courage.
I was found in Texas in late August by a kind person who noticed that both of my back legs had large, bleeding wounds. They were concerned I might have been hit by a car, but X-rays showed no broken bones, and we never learned exactly what happened to me. Whatever caused the injuries, I needed frequent bandage changes and ongoing care. I was such a good boy through all of it! After transferring to Oregon, I continued treatment at ODR until my wounds healed. They will leave scars, but I've been medically cleared and am ready for my next chapter. I'm also neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped!
One thing my caregivers have really appreciated about me is how cooperative I am with handling. Sometimes I might politely say, "Actually, I'd rather not," by stopping when someone asks me to do something, but with gentle guidance, I'm cooperate. After everything I went through with my legs, I've been a wonderful patient.
And here's another fun fact: I've lived with a cat in my foster home! That doesn't automatically guarantee I'll be a match for every cat, but it's a nice piece of information about my past.
I'm still a young dog, so I'll need the usual training, exercise, enrichment, and guidance as I mature. Huskies are intelligent, active dogs with independent streaks, and even a more manageable example of the breed still needs a committed family. But if you've been waiting for a Husky who brings the charm without seeming to come with the entire Husky starter kit, I might be your guy!
I've been through a lot in my short life, and now I'm ready for a home where I can be a goofy, happy young dog. I may not always feel brave, but with a little patience, kindness, and encouragement, I'm hoping my forever family will help me keep growing into my name.
