Meet Riley: A Story of Survival, Hope, and Unwavering Love

Riley’s story begins on the unforgiving streets of Harris County, TX, where she was abandoned as just a young pup. Alone, starving, and terrified, she wandered through a place where cruelty toward strays is heartbreakingly common. Her days were filled with fear, her nights with cold silence. No one came for her.
Eventually, animal control picked her up—but safety didn’t follow. Riley found herself in an overcrowded shelter, surrounded by barking, confusion, and despair. She was just a number on a list. And then, the worst news: Riley tested heartworm positive. In a shelter stretched beyond capacity, that diagnosis was a death sentence. She was placed on the county kill list, her life deemed not worth saving.
But Riley’s life was worth saving.
We couldn’t let her story end there. Heartworm is treatable, but the shelter wouldn’t fund the care she needed. So we stepped in. We took Riley in, gave her the medical attention she deserved, and watched her fight her way back to health. And today, we’re proud to say—Riley is Heartworm NEGATIVE.
She’s been with us for two years, and we still can’t understand why she hasn’t found her forever home. Riley is stunning, with fluffy peach-colored fur and piercing blue eyes that seem to hold the weight of everything she’s endured. She’s a 3-year-old Husky mix, gentle, loyal, and full of love.
Riley is the kind of dog who will sit beside you and gently place her paw in your hand—just to feel close. She’s active and playful outdoors, yet perfectly content to be a couch potato inside. She’s kennel trained, non-destructive, and great with other dogs.
She’s social, affectionate, and eager to please. Riley doesn’t just want a home—she wants a family. Someone to see her not as a survivor, but as a companion. Someone to love her for the beautiful soul she is.
