Meet Jasper...
Jasper is a handsome 55-pound Hound mix, estimated to be about 2–3 years old, who is just beginning to discover what it means to feel safe.
Jasper was found as a stray hiding in the tall grass near the bank. He was frightened, timid and extremely shy when Animal Control picked him up. Every effort was made to locate his previous owners, but sadly, no one came forward to claim him.
From the beginning, it was clear that Jasper had experienced things that left him frightened of people. His first photo at the pound seemed to capture the sadness in his eyes. His spirit appeared to have been broken, and he needed someone willing to see past his fear and give him a chance.
That is exactly what Prairie Paws Rescue did.
We found Jasper a foster family who understands that trust cannot be rushed. They are giving him patience, kindness and a safe environment where he can slowly come out of his shell.
And Jasper is making progress.
As he settles into his foster home, we are beginning to see glimpses of the dog underneath the shyness. He seems to enjoy gentle human companionship with adults and is learning that people can be kind and trustworthy.
Jasper is still unsure about children, so a home without young children may be the best fit for him. We are continuing to learn more about him as his confidence grows.
Because Jasper is still on his journey, his future adopter will need to be patient and understanding. He needs someone who will allow him to build trust at his own pace rather than expecting him to become confident overnight.
There is no doubt that Jasper has a lot to learn—but there is also so much potential in this big, beautiful boy. We are excited to watch his personality bloom as he discovers that he is finally safe and loved.
Jasper will be available for adoption in the next few weeks as we continue getting to know him.
His story began with fear and uncertainty. We are determined to help the next chapter be about trust, love and a forever home.

All medical work is completed prior to adoption including neuter shots worming flea treatment rabies shot kennel cough micro chip and vet examination.
Adoption fee is $200 + tax with an approved application. The pre-adoption application is available on the website www.prairiepawsrescue.com.
