Gene came to us from North Carolina after enduring severe neglect and a very rough start to life. When he first was rescued, he was suffering from significant hair loss and clearly hadn't been given the care every dog deserves. But thanks to the love and dedication of his rescuers, and plenty of TLC since arriving at Paws Crossed, Gene is making an incredible comeback.

Now, his coat is recovering beautifully, his spirit is shining through, and his sweet, gentle personality is impossible not to love. He's the kind of dog who seems to know he's been given a second chance—and he meets it with gratitude, affection, and the softest soulful eyes.

Gene may not be breathing fire or selling out arenas, but he is ready to be the star of someone's home. All he needs now is a forever family willing to give him the love he's always deserved.

The Shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.
