DESCRIPTION

Have you ever looked at a dog and just thought... “That right there is a GOOD dog”? Maybe it’s something in their eyes. Maybe they remind you of that loyal dog from an old Disney movie you watched a hundred times as a kid. You can’t quite explain it. You just look at them and KNOW. That is John Watson, an 86lb male Great Pyrenees/Anatolian mix. His face radiates kindness, like he would listen to your problems and never judge your questionable life decisions.

And that's the thing about John Watson. He isn't necessarily the dog who is going to stop everyone mid-scroll. He doesn't have the enormous, cloud-like coat that makes people lose their minds over Great Pyrenees. At first glance, you might think he's just another tan-and-white dog. Nothing particularly flashy. But oh, the longer you look at John, the more beautiful he becomes. You notice those soft, soulful eyes, the whitish badger markings on his face, the creamy white blending into golden hues, and little touches of black along his back and tail. So, if you were about to scroll past because he isn't the fluffiest dog on your feed, STOP. Look at him again. Look beyond the fact that he isn't going to win some imaginary beauty pageant against a Great Pyrenees who looks like he stepped out of a shampoo commercial. We truly believe he has all the makings of somebody's soul dog. Not just a pet, but THAT dog. We'd hate for his family to miss him because they were too busy looking for a prettier package to recognize the beautiful soul right in front of them.

Apply to adopt him at: https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app

Yukon, OK — approved adopters must pick him up in person.

Remember that sweet picture we painted earlier of John following the kids around the yard and being part of all those wonderful family memories? Well, we actually have a little evidence to support that vision! John has spent time around children ages four and six, and he does very well with them. He enjoys following them around and giving them a thorough sniff inspection, presumably to determine where they've been, what they've eaten, and whether they might be carrying snacks. HOWEVER, John is a BIG boy, and sometimes big dogs forget that small children do not come equipped with the same structural stability as an NFL player. He can accidentally knock little ones over. Oh cats, those mysterious creatures who somehow weigh twelve pounds yet run entire households through intimidation, psychological warfare, and knocking glasses off counters while maintaining direct eye contact. John hasn't met one yet, so we have no idea how he would do. As far as other dogs go, John has a best friend, and in what may be the most aggressively on-brand friendship in rescue history, his name is Sherlock Holmes. Yes, Sherlock and Watson. Under one roof. And what incredible mysteries have these brilliant detectives solved? Absolutely none. These two LOVE to play and wrestle, and John is delighted to have a fellow four-legged idiot with whom to share his questionable life choices. Somewhere, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is rolling in his grave because his legendary duo has been reincarnated as two oversized goofballs whose greatest intellectual achievement is determining whether they can fit each other's entire head in their mouth. He's curious about dogs on walks, but hasn't been observed interacting directly with them.

John is a friendly fellow, but he believes strangers should be properly announced before being granted access to his social calendar. When someone new arrives, he starts with a few barks. The funniest part? Once he's finished his dramatic announcement, he's ready to be friends. Now he wants to sniff you, investigate your belongings, and determine whether you give good ear scratches. He's the canine equivalent of someone who answers an unknown number with an irritated “WHO IS THIS?!” and then chats for forty-five minutes like they've been best friends since kindergarten.

John is a sweet, affectionate, increasingly laid-back boy who's still learning the world isn't quite as intimidating as it seems. He's not the bold fellow who charges into every situation with the confidence of a mediocre man applying for a job he's wildly unqualified for. He's more of a follower, observing and taking cues before committing. Can we blame him? Some of us have been adults for decades and still prefer to let someone else figure out where to park. Once comfortable, his playful, loving personality shines. With an energy level of 5/10, he's a man of balance: daily exercise, the occasional suspicious leaf to investigate, and plenty of time lying around looking handsome while someone tells him he's a good boy.

John is perfectly capable of getting into a vehicle on his own. He has four functioning legs, the necessary physical ability, and absolutely no legitimate excuse for the nonsense that follows. Unfortunately, he's decided that getting INTO the car is a service best provided by his personal chauffeur. More often than not, his foster family lifts him into the back. Yet he gets OUT just fine. No assistance. No hesitation. Apparently gravity, coordination, and personal responsibility return the moment the destination is reached. John is enrolled in the prestigious Watson School of Walking Like a Civilized Gentleman, and he's making excellent progress. Does he still pull? Yes. But he's learning quickly with consistency. We suspect nobody has explained why humans move at such an offensively inefficient pace when approximately 47 interesting smells are waiting to be investigated.

John is a mix of homebody and adventurer, although his ideal adventure may eventually involve walking to the refrigerator and back. He enjoys exploring but can be anxious in unfamiliar environments. He's not the dog who's going to leap out at a crowded festival, throw on sunglasses, and immediately befriend every stranger within five miles. He may need time to determine whether he's accidentally been enrolled in mandatory team-building. At home, he'd be delighted if your weekend plans consisted of absolutely nothing. John's opinion on water remains a mystery. We don't know whether he's a future kiddie-pool enthusiast or the sort of dog who looks at a puddle and wonders why anyone would willingly put their feet in that. He also hasn't submitted an opinion on humans throwing perfectly good objects across the yard and expecting dogs to retrieve them. As for toys... THIS is where John's tough-guy reputation takes a devastating hit. This sweet boy has a BABY. Yes. A baby. A beloved little toy he likes to sleep with. If that doesn't make you want to kiss his precious face, we're not sure what will. There's something precious about a dog who roughhouses all day and curls up with his favorite toy like a toddler who refuses to sleep without his stuffed bunny.

John hasn't shown food or resource guarding tendencies, which is wonderful for anyone hoping to avoid negotiating a hostage situation over a half-eaten biscuit. He also hasn't displayed particular fears or dramatic overreactions, which is almost disappointing given the entertainment value of watching a 70-plus-pound dog become personally victimized by his own fart. John would like a securely fenced yard with grass, interesting smells, and no restrictions on how long a gentleman may stand outside contemplating his existence. He LOVES being outdoors. But before anyone suggests he simply live outside, absolutely not. John wants a family, not a career as a lawn ornament. Think of the yard as his recreational facility, not his permanent mailing address. John has completed several courses at the prestigious University of Good Boys. He knows “sit,” “crate,” and “turn,” which is more than some humans can manage when given directions in a parking garage. He's potty trained and does REALLY well going into his crate. He doesn't consider entering his personal bedroom an act of betrayal requiring legal representation.

Inside the house, John hasn't shown a tendency to chew things he shouldn't. HOWEVER, we regret to inform you the same cannot be said for outdoor pillows. Apparently, Sherlock and Watson uncovered an organized crime ring operating out of the patio furniture. The cushions were allegedly involved in tax evasion, trafficking counterfeit tennis balls, stealing lunch money from garden gnomes, and running an illegal squirrel casino behind the barbecue grill. Naturally, our detectives had no choice but to intervene. Aside from the Great Patio Pillow Massacre of 2026, John hasn't displayed other notable mischief.

John would like to address allegations that he occasionally has something to say. As a Great Pyrenees mix, he feels the occasional public announcement is written into his ancestral job description. Thankfully, his foster family says his barking is getting MUCH better. When he's in the same room as his people, he's generally quiet unless the kids are particularly rambunctious. He's not completely silent, and his future family should be comfortable with an occasional bark.

Now, if you're thinking, “Oh my goodness, John might be my dog!” WONDERFUL. But before picking out matching Christmas pajamas, FIRST, FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION. Not a comment saying “WANT!” or a detailed explanation of your lifelong Pyr experience followed by no application. Our foster families haven't developed the ability to review applications existing exclusively in someone's imagination. SECOND, YOU MUST PICK JOHN UP IN YUKON, OKLAHOMA. No, we can't put him in an Amazon box and select two-day shipping. No, Sherlock can't drive him halfway. If you're looking for a dog who will love being part of your family, make you laugh, and someday become the face you can't imagine your home without, please give John Watson the consideration he deserves.
