Great Dane Dogs Available for Adoption in Pensacola, Florida

DEUCE

Great Dane
🇺🇸
Pensacola, Florida
April 20th
male, extra large, adult

DESCRIPTION

Fostered in Pensacola.

Meet Deuce, a 170-pound Great Dane with a heart just as big as his truly massive frame.

Around 4 to 5 years old, Deuce is the definition of a gentle giant. He is one of the most docile, kind-hearted, and easygoing dogs you will ever meet. Dogs, cats, kids, adults, it truly does not matter to him. Deuce greets everyone with quiet acceptance and a calm, steady presence that instantly puts people at ease. Nothing really seems to bother him. He just takes life as it comes.

Deuce is currently living in a foster home with a single dad and a confident, queen-bee Great Dane named Gwen. Even though he outweighs her by nearly double, Deuce is perfectly content letting Gwen rule the roost. He has no interest in being in charge. He is just here for companionship, comfort, and love.

At home, Deuce is the ultimate couch potato. His favorite place is right beside his person, soaking up affection and leaning in close like the classic Dane he is. He is very much a Velcro dog who will happily follow you from room to room just to be near you. Despite his size, he has wonderful house manners, is potty trained, and does well when left alone. He is used to having a dog door, though he just barely fits, and he enjoys time outside, especially if it involves quietly sunbathing.

While he is incredibly low-key, he still has a playful side. He loves a good game of tug of war with Gwen, preferably from the comfort of the couch where he does not have to move much. Running laps around the yard is not really his style. He is much more interested in hanging out with his person than roughhousing with other dogs. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys getting out and about at a relaxed pace.

Deuce’s story has not always been this peaceful. He came to us from a neglect situation in Louisiana after his previous family fell on hard times. He arrived severely underweight, covered in pressure sores and scabs from spending much of his life outside, and battling a heavy heartworm load. Since then, he has made incredible progress. He has gained weight, his skin and coat are healing beautifully, and he has fully embraced the comfort of indoor life.

Because of his heartworm condition, Deuce does require ongoing care. He has completed an initial round of treatment, including doxycycline, prednisone, and a ProHeart 12 injection, and will need continued monitoring and follow-up care every six months until he tests negative. If he becomes overly excited or exerts himself too much, his breathing can become labored, so a calm, low-key home that matches his natural pace will be important.

It is also important to understand that Deuce’s size comes with added responsibility. At his current weight, he is equivalent to about three large dogs. Medications, heartworm prevention, and routine veterinary care cost significantly more than for an average-size dog. Adopters should be prepared for higher expenses and can expect to pay roughly double for monthly preventatives and annual vetting.

The good news is that Deuce already matches the kind of home he needs. He is gentle and patient with children, great with strangers, not food aggressive, and truly just wants to be near his people. He does not need chaos or constant activity. He just needs consistency, comfort, and someone who appreciates a quiet, devoted companion.

If you are looking for a loyal, loving, low-key best friend who will happily share your couch and your personal space, Deuce might just be your perfect match. All he needs now is a soft place to land and someone to call his own.

Deuce is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. His adoption fee is $350.
