Rustey is a male, 11.18 lb., apricot Mini Doodle. His estimated date of birth is June 24, 2022. This sweet boy is looking for a patient, understanding home where he can continue building confidence at his own pace. He's a sensitive soul with some adorable quirks that make him one of a kind.
He appears to be mostly potty trained. During his time in foster care, he only had one accident in his belly band, which happened late at night. He doesn't yet know how to let his people know when he needs to go outside, so a consistent routine will help him succeed.
He's not a fan of crates and is happiest curled up in bed with his favorite person. While he's still learning to trust people, he also doesn't enjoy being left alone. Once he feels safe, he wants to be close—even if he's still a little unsure.
He's a great passenger in the car and rides calmly. Mealtime comes with a few preferences: he's a picky eater and enjoys dry food mixed with gravy-style wet food. He also seems to feel most comfortable eating in an elevated, secure spot, like on a bed or even a desk, where he knows other animals can't bother him.
Walks are... an adventure. He's still getting used to a leash and tends to decide where he'll walk, whether that's behind you or weaving between your feet. If you walk directly toward him or call him to come, he'll usually choose to run the other way. He doesn't currently respond to a name, so building a bond and using positive reinforcement will be important.
What he needs most is someone who understands that trust takes time. He's not being stubborn—he's simply learning that people can be safe. With patience, kindness, and a predictable routine, this little guy has every chance to blossom into a devoted companion.
If you're the kind of person who celebrates small victories and believes that the shy ones are worth the wait, he may be your perfect match. Rustey has an adoption fee of $350 which includes his neuter, microchip and vaccinations.
