Willow and Rocket (also available for adoption) came to us through our Safety Net Boarding Program after their owner experienced a housing crisis and could no longer care for them while rebuilding her life. We provided temporary care and extended their stay as long as possible through this program, but after we stopped receiving communication from their owner, we were required to transfer Willow and Rocket to Carlsbad Shelter to complete the required stray hold. When no one came to claim them, they returned to our care as Frosted Faces (albeit very young ones!)
Willow and Rocket are ready for fresh starts with loving families. While we'd love to see them stay together, we know that's a big ask, so we're happy to consider separate homes where each can thrive. Willow and Rocket are super sweet, friendly, smart and loving pups. While they aren't able to live with cats, they do well with other dogs.
Willow went on a Frosted Field Trip so we could learn what she is like in a home environment. Her foster dad shares:
"Willow was an excellent passenger on the drive home. Once at home, she settled quickly after inspecting her new housing. Willow is fully housetrained, went into her crate on her own to sleep, and showed no destructive behavior indoors. She even ignored a pair of slippers that were right next to her bed and didn't get into the garbage and kept her paws off the kitchen counter. Willow is very playful, but also has an off switch and settles quickly when playtime is done. She likes to roughhouse, play ball, and roll over for belly rubs. If your face is within reach, you will get kisses! Willow respects boundaries such as not jumping on the couch when you tell her that it's not allowed. She's very responsive to tone and hand gestures and knows the sit, down, and wait commands.
Willow is smart, learns quickly, and loves training for treats. Like many young shepherds, her default on leash is to pull and lead the way. The good news is she is very responsive to training, and it only took a few repetitions before she learned that we only move forward when she stops pulling. She ignored some dogs who passed us but was reactive to others. She responded better when we redirected her attention on us in advance and put ourselves between her and the other dog. With continued training and consistency, I think she'll continue to improve. She had no reactivity to passing people or bicycles.
Even with all the stress and upheaval she's had recently, Willow is so full of love and affection. Her biggest priorities are to be with her people, wag her tail, and give kisses. She is looking for someone who understands her breed, will continue her training, and will give her the stability she's been missing. If that sounds like you, Willow may be your perfect match!"
