NOTE: PRINCE IS WITH HIS RESCUER SAN JOSE, CA. GSRSV HAS NOT MET PRINCE. WE ARE LISTING HIM ON THIS WEBSITE ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS TO GIVE HIM MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE END OF THIS PROFILE FOR CONTACT INFO.
Prince is a 92-lb, 2-yo neutered GSD mix who is loyal, protective and obedient. He is microchipped and up-to-date on core vaccinations. Prince is healthy overall, but he does have allergies that have led to skin & ear infections. He is presently being treated with Cytopoint injections monthly to treat his allergies. [Note from GSRSV: I have suggested some very effective, inexpensive natural supplements that will hopefully cure Princes allergies. He has to start on those supplements.]
Prince is wary of newcomers in the house. He's actually very shy but he WILL bark and act protective as he's very attached to his humans. Prince ignores people he sees when hes out on walks. Princes foster caretaker (Sarah) has not had him around any children as Princes ear infections makes him a little hand shy and shes concerned what might happen if a child were to accidentally grab or poke his ear.
Prince is fairly neutral with medium to large dogs; hes not particularly interested in interacting with them, but not aggressive, either. However, he does have a strong prey drive so a home without small dogs is in order for Prince.
Prince is NOT good with cats.
Prince is fully housetrained and non-destructive inside. Sarah keeps him in her house, uncrated, when shes gone for extended periods of time. Prince also sleeps inside, in the living room on a dog bed.
Prince has received formal obedience training and obeys multiple commands, including sit, stay, lie down, get down/off, get back, and shake. He walks well on a leash except if he sees a cat. He is non-reactive towards other dogs. Off-leash, Prince has good recall in the house or back yard but outside, not so good.
Prince enjoys car rides and is a calm passenger. He will chew on bones but doesn't play with toys all that much. He prefers to work rather than goof around. He'd do wonderful in a home with a strong, compassionate person to follow around.
A woman adopted Prince in April 2026 from the San Jose animal shelter. She brought him to a one-bedroom apartment and subsequently learned that that German Shepherds are not allowed there. The woman reached out to a friend of Sarahs in mid-June seeking rehoming assistance as she was under threat of eviction. She was considering having Prince euthanized. At that point, Sarah took Prince in as a temporary foster.
Prince is located in San Jose. There is no adoption fee for Prince, but prospective adopters will be carefully screened.
