Max is a handsome German Shepherd with a big personality, a sweet side, and so much potential waiting to shine. He is the kind of dog who truly wants to build a meaningful relationship with his person, and we believe the right person can make all the difference in helping Max become the very best version of himself.
Max is looking for someone who understands and loves the German Shepherd breed and appreciates the importance of clear boundaries, structure, consistency, and confidence. His ideal adopter will be an experienced Shepherd handler who is comfortable setting expectations, maintaining boundaries, and working through challenges calmly and confidently. For Max, structure isn't about being strict. It is about helping him understand what is expected of him so he can feel secure and successful.
Max does especially well when he knows what comes next. A predictable routine and consistent expectations will be important pieces of helping him thrive. One thing Max isn't particularly fond of is what we call the "have-to's." Going into his crate, for example, may not always be something Max feels like doing, but sometimes it is simply a "have to." Max needs someone who can confidently and calmly guide him through those moments, without turning them into a battle. He needs a person who can say, "This is what we're doing," and help him move forward.
And underneath all of that, Max is a sweet boy with so much to offer. He is intelligent, engaging, and capable of forming a wonderful bond with someone who takes the time to understand him. He isn't looking for someone to simply manage him. He is looking for someone who will appreciate who he is, understand his breed, respect his boundaries, and provide the guidance and structure that allow him to succeed.
Max has also tested positive for Anaplasmosis. Because of this initial positive diagnosis, it is possible that he may test positive again in the future. Dogs can continue to test positive even after an infection, and a veterinarian may not recommend treatment unless a dog is exhibiting clinical symptoms. His adopter should be prepared to discuss his history and any future monitoring with their veterinarian.
Max is looking for a special person who understands what makes a German Shepherd tick. An experienced Shepherd owner who is confident, consistent, patient, and comfortable providing structure could be the person who helps Max truly flourish.
Max doesn't need perfection. He needs someone who understands him, believes in him, and is ready to help him succeed. Someone who can look at Max and confidently say, "I know what you need, and I've got you."
If you're an experienced German Shepherd person looking for a loyal companion and are ready to take the time to build something truly meaningful, Max would love the chance to meet you.
